The site's been running smooth for the past couple months, so I haven't really had to touch it at all. If you do find any issues or you think of a cool feature to add, feel free to shoot me an email by using the 'Contact Me' link on the left. Also, I know many of you have parents that graduated Exeter. Have them sign up! We have many people from the past couple years, but not enough people from before. Spread the word :)
The new site is online. Each class now has its own forum. Simply click on 'browse by year' on the left and go to that year. Then on the top, you will see a link to the forum for that class.
Let me know what you guys think of the new setup and as well if you have any bugs. Thank you, and enjoy :)
My name is Roy El-Rayes, and I am the original founder of this site.
Back in 1999, I decided that I wanted a way to be able to stay up to date with my friends from high school. After a little bit of thinking, I realized that I should put my web skills to use and simply build a website devoted to this. The site was a success and had over 700 students and alumni both. This was great, and word was spreading about my site.
I thought that since I was doing this completely out of pocket and not gaining any money whatsoever that the school would support this. I emailed the school and asked them if they would just link my site from theirs. What was their response? I was called into the office (during class, might I add) and Linda Misterkeweitz (or however you spell it) told me that I must take the site down. I was also told that the word "Exeter" was owned by the school and I could not use it. Also, I can not have a picture of an Eagle on my site. After laughing at her and exchanging a few words, I left and continued on. After a year or so, I emailed the school again asking for a simple link. I had many many alumni that loved the site and I just wanted to reach them more. I got nothing again.
After a few months, I ordered new hosting for my site and I needed to add all my content again. I was pretty mad about how the school had treated the student directory, and therefore decided to take it down. It upset a lot of people, but I did not want to be a part of a school district that would rather hassle a student than help.
Come 2004. I receive word that the school is trying to do their own student directory. How much do you think they spent on another company to build this? Probably a couple thousand. So this is my way of saying thank you Exeter School District. I did this for free, in one night.
Would you rather pay $80 for a book that will be outdated by the time you buy it, or come to this site for free and see the updated information? I thought so.
So enjoy the site. If you can think of any neat features you'd like, feel free to contact me and let me know.
Roy El-Rayes
